Annual Bead Challenge 2018: Under the Savanna Sun

The Bead Society of Northern California proudly presents Bead Challenge 2018: Under the Savanna Sun. Bead Challenge is an annual event where the BSNC Board of Directors develop a theme and creates a project kit. There are some rules that need to be followed, but creativity is the focus. The challenge is offered in conjunction with the Alameda County Fair and all entries will be on display at the Alameda County Fair, mid June through the first week of July, 2018.

In hopes of attracting more members to participate in the challenge, we have reduced the percentage of beads you are required to use from the kit to 50%. We are providing you with the background palette so you can add the vibrant colors of your life and imagination. We are eagerly anticipating the wide variety of colors and beads used making each piece truly unique. Please join us in this adventure!

PLEASE NOTE: We have a very limited supply of Challenge Kits, so get yours early.

PRESENTS:         Bead Challenge 2018: Under the Savanna Sun

BSNC proudly presents Bead Challenge 2018: Under the Savanna Sun. The challenge is offered in conjunction with the Alameda County Fair and all entries will be displayed at the Alameda County Fair, mid June through the first week of July, 2018.

Beads have been around for nearly 100,000 years. In that time different materials, shapes, designs, and uses have defined entire civilizations. The selection of beads used in this challenge pulls from the history of African trade beads. Although sand cast and ceramic beads aren’t shiny and new, they were once a way of life both economically and socially within the African continent. The history of these beads helped to shape the bead trade of modern society.

PLEASE NOTE: We have a very limited supply of Challenge Kits, so get yours early.
